Davos peace talks cannot achieve anything without Russia — Kremlin

The talks were held on Sunday at the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. The latest discussions of the so-called "peace formula" proposed by Ukraine in Davos will not lead to anything since Russia is not involved, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The talks were held on Sunday at the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine.

"Without our participation, any discussions are incapable of achieving anything," Peskov told reporters, commenting on Sunday’s meeting on Ukraine’s "peace formula" in Davos.

According to him, Russia has made its stance on this issue clear. "In effect, these are discussions for the sake of discussions. And that is a process that is not and cannot be aimed at achieving any specific results for one obvious reason: because we (Russia - TASS) are not taking part," the Russian presidential spokesman emphasized.

Ukrainian Presidential Office Head Andrey Yermak earlier lamented that participants could not come to a consensus in Sunday’s talks and that the Ukrainian delegation had to explain its position. In turn, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis has insisted that Russia be involved in any peace discussions.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, speaking via video link to participants at the G20 summit in mid-November 2022, put forward a so-called 10-point peace plan that does not take into account Moscow’s position. It stipulates the complete withdrawal of the Russian Armed Forces from the 1991 borders and giving back control of the "exclusive economic zone" in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov to Ukraine. Peskov said earlier Kiev’s peace plans do not take today’s realities into account. Moscow continues its special military operation as it sees little progress in the peace process around Ukraine.
