Russia, Iran oppose West’s unipolar policy — Russian senator

Konstantin Kosachev stressed that the meeting with his Iranian counterpart matched well "the substantive Russian-Iranian relations in the context of the current agenda"

MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. Russia regards Iran as one of the most important partners in the international arena, as both countries are in favor of a multipolar world order as a counterbalance to the West's policies, Konstantin Kosachev, the deputy speaker of the Federation Council, said at a meeting with an Iranian parliamentary delegation under Vahid Jalalzadeh, the chairman of the Iranian parliament’s commission on national security and foreign policy.

"Iran for Russia is one of the most important partners in the international arena. Moscow and Tehran are in favor of a multipolar world order and against the unipolar policy of the West," the Federation Council’s press service quotes Kosachev as saying.

He stressed that the meeting with his Iranian counterpart matched well "the substantive Russian-Iranian relations in the context of the current agenda."

He stated that the assessments and approaches of Russian and Iranian legislators on many issues were close or identical.

"We can constructively discuss a wide range of topics," he emphasized.

In turn, Jalalzadeh noted that Russia and Iran showed an example of strategic relations. He thanked his Russian colleagues "for their balanced position on the events in the Middle East and the situation in the Gaza Strip."

The two sides discussed the regional and bilateral agenda, paid attention to Russian-Iranian infrastructure projects and bilateral additional agreements the Iranian parliament was going to ratify.
