Kremlin spokesman says Russia will definitely hold presidential elections

When asked when the elections will be announced, Dmitry Peskov said, "It’s not the Kremlin that announces elections"

MOSCOW, October 24. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia will definitely hold presidential elections.

"They haven’t been called yet, but they are approaching, and they will take place in any event. That’s our assumption," he said.

When asked when the elections will be announced, the spokesman said, "It’s not the Kremlin that announces elections."

Peskov also commented on the bill that seeks to amend legislation on presidential elections, which is being considered by the State Duma.

"Of course, the certain special situation, including in our new regions, requires additional legislative initiatives and solutions. This is essentially what is happening."

Russia is set to hold presidential elections in March 2024. In accordance with the Russian Constitution, presidential elections are called by the Federation Council, the legislature’s upper house. Elections must be announced at least 90 days before the vote, but not earlier than 100 days ahead of it.
