Russia condemns drone attacks in Iran, warns they could set off 'uncontrolled escalation'

It was reported over the weekend that a powerful explosion went off in the city of Isfahan in central Iran

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Moscow strongly condemns any provocations like the drone attacks on an Iranian defense company on January 28 and warns they could trigger an uncontrolled escalation in the Middle East, according to a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Monday.

"We strongly condemn any provocative efforts that have the potential to provoke an uncontrolled escalation of tensions in a region that’s far from being peaceful as it is. Such destructive actions could have unpredictable consequences for peace and stability in the Middle East. That has to be understood by the organizers of the brazen raid, their backers and those who are gloating over the issue, holding on to the futile hope for the weakening of Iran," the statement said.

IRNA reported over the weekend that a powerful explosion went off in the city of Isfahan in central Iran. The country’s Defense Ministry said later that there had been a failed attempt to attack one of the ministry’s centers with drones. According to the ministry, one drone was shot down and two others went into defensive traps and exploded. No one was hurt as a result of the attack. The damage that was caused is insignificant. The statement didn’t say whom Tehran blames for the attack.
