Kremlin weighs in on Washington’s new designation of Wagner

On Friday, it was stated that the US had decided to designate the Wagner private military company as a transnational criminal organization and would soon impose new sanctions against it

MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/. Washington’s decision to designate the Wagner private military company as a transnational criminal organization is unlikely to affect the company or Russia, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

"I don’t think that it has any practical meaning for our country, let alone for the Wagner private military company," he specified, commenting on the decision.

US White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said on Friday that the United States had decided to designate the Wagner private military company as a transnational criminal organization and would soon impose new sanctions against it. Reuters reported, citing sources, that restrictions from the US Department of the Treasury would particularly include the freezing of assets and a ban for American nationals on dealing with the company. The US authorities earlier put the Wagner private military company on a sanctions list.
