Ambassador cautions Canada’s actions only ramp up confrontation between Russia, West

On Wednesday, Oleg Stepanov was summoned to the Canadian Foreign Ministry over Russia’s actions in Ukraine

OTTAWA, January 19. /TASS/. Canada’s policy only heightens the confrontation between Russia and Western countries without leaving room to continue diplomatic work, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov told Russian journalists in a phone conversation on Wednesday.

"By getting entrenched in this not just a pro-Ukrainian, but a hyper-anti-Russian policy, they simply turn up the degree of the current confrontation without leaving any chance for further diplomatic work," he said. The envoy stressed that Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine would continue until all its goals are achieved. "Yet every conflict after achieving its goals implies some sort of processing of results <...>, while Western countries with their confrontational policy exacerbate any possibility to reach diplomatic results following the conclusion of our military operation," he said.
