West may employ tools used against Russia to strongarm other states, Lavrov warns

The Russian foreign minister also said that today "all mechanisms created by the US-led West, which were considered sacred, have been destroyed"

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. The West may resort to tools it’s using against Russia to bully any unfavorable country as well, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"The developments around Ukraine have exposed the subconscious drive of the United States to stop enhancing its global positions with the use of legitimate ways and switch to illegitimate methods instead to ensure its dominance…," Lavrov said speaking at his annual press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2022.

"All of this is currently being employed against Russia. Sanctions that contradict these norms and mechanisms are used in regard to Russia and other unfavorable countries, but it is obvious that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow they can be put in use against any other country, which could somehow fail to obediently follow America’s orders," the top Russian diplomat noted.

Lavrov also said that today "all mechanisms created by the US-led West, which were considered sacred, have been destroyed."

"They [the mechanisms] included the provisions of a free market, fair competition, free enterprise, inviolability of ownership, and the presumption of innocence - everything that the Western model of globalization was based upon collapsed at once," Lavrov insisted.

"The European Union had completely submitted to the US diktat and the pinnacle of this process that had been maturing for several years was the recent signing of the January 10 declaration between the EU and NATO that directly states that NATO and EU are licensed to resort to all political, economic and military means in the interests of the ‘gold billion’," he added.
