Russia seeks to end war raging since 2014 through special operation, Putin says

The Russian leader pointed out that Russia needs to protect our people living in the region

ST. PETERSBURG, January 18. /TASS/. Full-scale military activities have been going on in Donbass since 2014 and Russia’s special operation is aimed at ending the war, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with WWII veterans and Leningrad Siege survivors on Wednesday.

"In fact, full-scale military activities have been going on in Donbass since 2014, with the use of heavy equipment, artillery, tanks and aircraft. This is what has been happening there. Everything that we are doing now, including the special military operation, is about trying to end this war. This is the reason for our operation, along with the need to protect our people living in the region," he pointed out.
