‘Read about Nuremberg first’: Diplomat slams German MFA chief for pushing NATO claims

Commenting on Baerbock’s demand for a special international tribunal to prosecute Russia, Maria Zakharova said that Germany’s top diplomat was a person "who does not have the slightest idea of what a tribunal means"

MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has effectively been playing the role of a ‘battering ram’ to promote NATO’s interests in Germany and its neighbors, while the science of foreign policy or diplomacy is entirely foreign to her, Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, told the Soloviev Live TV program on Tuesday.

"As for Annalena Baerbock, she is the same as [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, a person who is alien to foreign policy or diplomacy, a person alien to the practice of international communication who has made a political career on quite a different basis. <...> [Baerbock] has largely played the role of a battering ram to promote the North Atlantic’s notions on German soil and in neighboring countries," the Russian diplomat argued.

Commenting on Baerbock’s demand for a special international tribunal to prosecute Russia, Zakharova said that Germany’s top diplomat was a person "who does not have the slightest idea of what a tribunal means." Zakharova recommended that Baerbock "read something about the Nuremberg Trials first" or visit the Nuremberg Trials Memorial and study its history before voicing her accusations, something she said the German foreign minister had been doing quite regularly.
