MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military continues shelling the Kakhovka hydropower plant (HPP), creating the risk of serious damage that may cause a man-made disaster, Ruslan Agayev, representative of the Novaya Kakhovka military-civilian administration, told Russia’s TV Channel One on Thursday.
"These bombardments occur more or less intensely every day and people do not remember any instance when there was no daily shelling of the hydropower plant. Of course, there is always the risk of destruction as they are not just throwing stones at it: they are striking purposefully from HIMARS rocket systems to destroy our dam and cause a man-made disaster," he said.
The Kakhovka HPP is part of a cascade of Dnieper hydropower plants and is located 5 km from the town of Novaya Kakhovka in the Kherson Region. Commander of Russia’s Integrated Group of Forces in Ukraine, Army General Sergey Surovikin said on October 18 that the Russian troops had information about Kiev’s preparations for delivering a massive rocket strike on the Kakhovka hydropower plant’s dam.
