Over 1.4 mln refugees arrive in Russia from Ukraine and Donbass

Of those who have arrived, 33,000 people are in 532 temporary shelters, the rest are staying with relatives or on their own

TASS, May 23. More than 1.4 million refugees from Ukraine and Donbass have crossed the Russian border, a source in law enforcement agencies told TASS.

"As of Monday morning, more than 1.4 million people crossed the border with Russia. Most of them are citizens of the DPR and LPR," the source said.

Of those who have arrived, 33,000 people are in 532 temporary shelters, the rest are staying with relatives or on their own. Medical care has been provided to 40,000 people, including almost 15,000 children.

Internally displaced persons who applied to the Russian Federation for lump-sum allowances of 10,000 rubles ($170) were paid a total of 2 billion 212 million rubles (almost $37.6 million). On the territory of Ukraine, similar sums were paid in the amount of 221 million rubles (almost $3.8 million).
