Russian first deputy UN envoy describes NATO as ‘enemy’

Sweden and Finland will also be seen as such if they join the alliance, Dmitry Polyansky stressed

UNITED NATIONS, May 13. /TASS/. Russian First Deputy Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky described NATO as Russia’s enemy, adding that Sweden and Finland will also be seen as such if they join the alliance.

"I’m not a military man, but I know that NATO is a very unfriendly bloc to us. This is an enemy, and NATO itself admitted that Russia is an enemy. It means that if Finland and Sweden, all of a sudden, instead of neutral countries become part of the enemy, well, they will bear all the risks as everybody," the Russian diplomat said.

"They will bear certain defense risks, of course, they will bear certain economic costs, but it’s up to them to decide, it’s up to their population to decide," he added.
