Senior Russian diplomat plans to meet with US ambassador next week

After the Russia-US summit in Geneva, the sides agreed to return the Russian and US ambassadors to Washington and Moscow respectively

MOSCOW, June 24./TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov expects next week to meet with US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan, who has returned to Moscow.

"He [Sullivan] is in Moscow. I expect to meet and talk with him next week," the diplomat told TASS on Thursday.

Russian-US relations significantly worsened after US President Joe Biden’s high-profile interview, in which he claimed that the Russian leadership would have to "pay a price" for Moscow’s alleged interference in the US elections and also approved of disparaging remarks about the Russian president. After these statements, Russian Ambassador to US Anatoly Antonov was summoned to Moscow for consultations on March 21. On April 22, US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan left for Washington as well.

After the Russia-US summit in Geneva, the sides agreed to return the Russian and US ambassadors to Washington and Moscow respectively. The Russian ambassador returned to Washington on June 20.
