Gazprom delivers 42.4 mln cubic meters of gas to Europe via Ukraine

The transit line through Ukraine remains the only route for Russian gas supplies to Western and Central European countries

MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Gazprom supplies gas to Europe in transit via Ukraine to the Sudzha gas pumping station in the Kursk region in the amount of 42.4 mln cubic meters per day. The application for pumping through Sokhranovka was rejected by the Ukrainian side, a Gazprom representative told journalists.

"Gazprom supplies Russian gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine in the amount confirmed by the Ukrainian side through the Sudzha gas pumping station - 42.4 mln cubic meters as of December 28. The application for the Sokhranovka GMS was rejected," the company representative said. The day before, the figure reached 41.5 mln cubic meters.

The transit line through Ukraine remains the only route for Russian gas supplies to Western and Central European countries. Pumping through Nord Stream has been completely stopped. Gas supplies via TurkStream and Blue Stream are intended for Turkey and the countries of Southern and Southeastern Europe.

The agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory expires at the end of 2024 and provides for the pumping of 40 bln cubic meters per year. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that there will definitely be no new contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, but Russia and Gazprom will survive. In turn, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced that Ukraine will stop the transit of Russian gas at 7 a.m. (08:00 Moscow time) on January 1, 2025. At the same time, he explained that the resumption of transit through the Ukrainian GTS will be possible at the request of the European Commission if it is not Russian gas.
