EU countries to lose over 500 bln euro if terminating cooperation with Russia — expert

"The most reasonable in this challenging time is to keep the accumulated pool of business and human relations," Sergey Katyrin noted

MOSCOW, March 18. /TASS/. Countries of the European Union will lose at least 500 bln euro upon termination of trade with Russia and the mutual withdrawal of investments, head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sergey Katyrin told TASS on Friday.

"Hot heads urge EU countries to sever any economic cooperation with Russia. This will be a loss of about 500 bln euro at the least for the EU - liquidation of trade plus the mutual withdrawal of investments, while these are mutually beneficial ties a priori," Katyrin said.

"The most reasonable in this challenging time is to keep the accumulated pool of business and human relations," he noted.

In 2021, the trade turnover between Russia and the EU gained 47% in value terms against 2020 and totaled $282 bln, Vice President of CCI Vladimir Padalko told TASS.
