Fluctuations in oil prices are a sign of volatility, said Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday, adding that Moscow keeps a close eye on the oil prices. "The price of oil is a volatile substance, everyone closely watches this volatility: both exporting countries and consumer countries," he told reporters.

He clarified that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation, but did not speak about the Russian position at OPEC negotiations on production quotas.

On Tuesday, the cost of futures for Brent crude for delivery in January 2019 during trading on the ICE Stock Exchange in London fell by 7.8% to $ 61.97 per barrel. The last time the price of oil was below $ 62 per barrel was on February 14, 2018. WTI crude oil prices are also falling. In particular, the cost of futures for WTI oil for delivery in January 2019 fell by 7.5% to $ 53.23 per barrel.
