LPR, DPR, Russian forces take control of seven settlements - Russian Defense Ministry

During the day, the group of troops of the Lugansk People’s Republic continued their offensive and took control of two settlements

MOSCOW, March 8. /TASS/. The forces of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR) alongside Russia have taken control of seven populated localities, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Tuesday.

During the day, the group of troops of the Lugansk People’s Republic continued their offensive and took control of two settlements, including Nizhneye.

"Units of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic have taken control of Olenovka, Polnoye and Yuzhnodonbasskoye," he said.

The Russian armed forces took control of two settlements, including Peredovoye.

According to the general, DPR forces advanced another 800-900 meters in the city of Mariupol after the ceasefire ended.

On February 24, Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aims to demilitarize and denazify the country. The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops are not targeting Ukrainian cities, but are incapacitating Ukrainian military infrastructure, therefore there are no threats to the civilian population.
