Biden, Harris aides blame each other for presidential election loss

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s contender, in the November 5 election

WASHINGTON, November 8. /TASS/. Advisers to US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris blame each other for the Democrats’ election loss, the Axios media outlet writes.

According to sources in the White House and Harris’ campaign team, "in response to [Republican candidate Donald] Trump's decisive victory, aides in both camps are blaming the other for being more responsible." "One Democrat familiar with the White House's dynamics pointed a finger at Mike Donilon and Steve Ricchetti, Biden's top political aides: 'Mike and Steve will have a lot to answer for - having him run' for re-election at 80 years old," Axios notes.

A person involved with Harris' team told Axios: "The 107-day Harris campaign was nearly flawless. The Biden campaign that preceded it was the opposite."

The news website also quotes a former Biden staffer who dismissed the Harris team's criticisms as making excuses for the vice president's failures, saying: "How did you spend $1 billion and not win?"

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump defeated Harris, the Democratic Party’s contender, in the November 5 election. The Republican Party also took control of the Senate and is also expected to gain a majority in the House of Representatives. Trump’s inauguration is set for January 20, 2025.

Current President Joe Biden was supposed to be the Democratic Party’s candidate but after his failed performance at a televised debate with Trump, calls among Democrats intensified for Biden to withdraw from the race. On July 21, he announced his decision to drop out and support Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for US president. Trump is the Republican presidential candidate in the election.
