Finnish president inks security pact with Ukraine during visit to Kiev

Finland is the eighth country to ink a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine

HELSINKI, April 3. /TASS/. Finnish President Alexander Stubb has signed an agreement on security cooperation and long-term support for Ukraine while visiting Kiev, the Finnish presidential office said.

The agreement was inked after Stubb’s meeting with President Vladimir Zelensky in the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday. The ten-year agreement covers a variety of sectors, including political support, support for the Ukrainian defense industry, as well as for reforming and rebuilding the country. Finland is the eighth country to ink a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine.

The 89-clause document regulates a wide range of fields: starting from protections for Ukrainian citizens and finishing with drafting a special four-year plan in support of the ground, air, maritime, cyber, electromagnetic and space fields, focusing on the key demands of Ukraine's defense capacity. The agreement may be extended six months prior to its expiration date.
