KARUIZAWA /Japan/, April 18. /TASS/. G7 states do not change their positions regarding the ‘one China’ policy and advocate peace in the Taiwan Strait, G7 foreign ministers said in the joint statement adopted Tuesday.
"We reaffirm the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as an indispensable element in security and prosperity in the international community, and call for the peaceful resolution of cross-Strait issues. There is no change in the basic positions of the G7 members on Taiwan, including stated one China policies," the statement reads.
G7 states are concerned over the buildup of China’s nuclear arsenal and call on Beijing to engage in a strategic stability dialogue with Washington, G7 foreign ministers said in the joint statement.
"We are also concerned about China’s ongoing and accelerating expansion of its nuclear arsenal, and development of increasingly sophisticated delivery systems, without transparency, good faith arms control or risk reductions measures. The G7 urges China to engage promptly in strategic risk reduction discussions with the U.S. and to promote stability through greater transparency of China’s nuclear weapon policies, plans, and capabilities," the statement reads.
G7 foreign ministers underscore importance of direct dialogue, ‘stable, constructive relations’ with China, Japanese Foreign Minister said.
