US rushing to quell allies’ worries about leak of classified information — newspaper

It is noted that the Five Eyes intel consortium of the United States, Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand and Canada have requested a briefing from Washington but have not received a substantive response yet

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. High-profile US officials are taking measures to quell allies’ concerns following the leak of classified materials, Politico reported on Monday, citing sources.

According to them, senior intelligence, State Department and Pentagon officials reached out to their counterparts to placate them in the wake of the publishing of the intelligence data.

The Five Eyes intel consortium of the United States, Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand and Canada have requested a briefing from Washington but have not received a substantive response yet, an official told the newspaper. US officials have told their allies that an investigation is underway and that they are still trying to understand the scale of the leak.

"I have no idea what the plan is," another senior US official said. "I’d like to know myself how we’re going to handle," he added.

Officials in London, Brussels, Berlin, Dubai and Kiev asked Washington about how the information ended up online and who was responsible for the leak, Politico wrote. They also sought to find out what the US was doing to remove the information from social media.
