MADRID, February 24. /TASS/. The European Union doesn’t want to destroy Russia, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in an interview with Spain’s Periodico newspaper, which came out on Sunday.
"We don’t support Ukraine to make political changes in Russia, and, frankly speaking, we don’t want Russia’s collapse," he said, adding that not all of the EU countries have an identical attitude to the conflict. He noted that one country is very skeptical about the consequences of the sanction and thinks that they are not working and should not have been imposed as it was a shot in the foot. However, in his words, this country voted for all the sanctions. "It is skeptical, it doesn’t believe in them, but it doesn’t break unity," he noted.
He did not rule out that the EU’s approach to the situation in Ukraine was too gradual and admitted that it would have been better to send tanks to Ukraine much earlier instead of discussing the matter for three months.
He said that the EU has enough munitions but called for expanding their production. He also called on EU members to send all munitions they have while they are increasing production.
