Japan deviates from post-war peaceful development path — Chinese Foreign Ministry

It is reported that Japan's defense budget has increased significantly over the past 11 years

BEIJING, January 16. /TASS/. Tokyo is deviating from the path of peaceful development chosen by Japan after World War II, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a briefing on Monday.

"Japan is currently deviating from the post-war path of peaceful development, and the danger of repeating the mistakes of history is constantly growing," Wang Wenbin said.

According to him, Japan's defense budget has increased significantly over the past 11 years. Tokyo is constantly adjusting its security policy, it seeks to increase its military might and "overestimates regional tensions," the diplomat stressed.

"We warn Tokyo in all seriousness that whoever undermines security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region is bound to face widespread resistance and resolute opposition from countries in the region," Wang Wenbin said.

A joint US-Japanese statement issued on January 13 following a meeting in Washington between US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the United States and Japan should strengthen their individual and collective capabilities in light of the current global developments. The document also argues that "the Indo-Pacific faces growing challenges, from actions inconsistent with the rules-based international order by China to provocations by North Korea."
