Pentagon tells Ukrainian defense chief that US rejects Moscow’s `allegations’ about Kiev

According to the readout, the US defense chief spoke with Reznikov "to reaffirm the unwavering US commitment to support Ukraine’s ability to counter" Russia’s special military operation

WASHINGTON, October 25. /TASS/. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told his Ukrainian counterpart Alexey Reznikov in a telephone call on Monday that Washington rejected Russia’s allegations about Kiev, Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder said in a readout of the call.

According to the readout, the US defense chief spoke with Reznikov "to reaffirm the unwavering US commitment to support Ukraine’s ability to counter" Russia’s special military operation. The Pentagon chief also "condemned Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure and reiterated that the United States rejects the public and false allegations by Russia about Ukraine and any attempt to use them as a pretext for further Russian escalation." The two countries’ defense chiefs pledged "to remain in close contact."

Austin spoke to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu twice last week. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday that Washington rejected what he called Russia’s "transparently false" allegations that Kiev was preparing to use a "dirty bomb."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier that the risk of Kiev using a "dirty bomb" would be on the agenda of a UN Security Council meeting. He stressed that Moscow had reliable evidence Ukraine may be planning provocations involving the use of a dirty bomb. Russia’s top diplomat pointed out that "the unfounded denials by Western colleagues that these are falsehoods and that Russia itself plans to do something similar in order to later blame the regime of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky are not serious.".
