ST. PETERSBURG, February 27. /TASS/. Retired Spanish football star Carles Puyol, who as a member of the national squad won the 2010 World Cup, has found impressive the condition of St. Petersburg’s Zenit-Arena, one of a dozen stadiums across Russia expected to host the Confederations’ Cup matches this year and the World Cup in 2018.

A delegation of the international football federation FIFA on Monday began its fifth operating visit to Russia, which will take it to the stadiums in St. Petersburg, Sochi, Moscow and Kazan, selected as 2018 World Cup venues. The tour is due to end on March 3.

"I have only positive impressions from the visit," Pyol told the media on Monday. "A great job has been done and a great stadium built. I went down to the pitch myself. It is in excellent condition. I took a look at the stands from there, I imagined they were full to capacity, and I felt an instant urge to take a ball and start playing. It is very important the fans will have an excellent view from any seat."

Zenit-Arena is an unofficial name of the newly-built stadium. No official one has been chosen so far. During the Confederations’ Cup it will be called St. Petersburg Arena.

The stadium began to be built in 2007. According to the latest estimates the project required 43 billion rubles to accomplish. The main phase of the construction work was completed on December 29, 2016.
