MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. First deputy president of Russia’s Football Union (RFU) Nikita Simonian has met with the general manager of Russia’s national team, Oreste Cinquini.
The RFU has delayed salary payments to Cinquini and Russia’s chief coach Fabio Capello since June 2014.
“It was a frank talk (with Cinquini), but I would not like to disclose what was actually said,” Simonian told TASS, adding that “Capello is currently out of Moscow.”
The Russian labor watchdog Rostrud had issued instructions to settle back wages to Cinquini and Capello by January 19. An inspection of the RFU last October and November revealed a wage debt to the coaching staff of more than 181.5 million rubles. After the uble’s latest devaluation, the debt may have soared to above 500 million rubles ($8 million).
For defaulting on the watchdog’s demands, the RFU may be punished with a fine and the union’s president, Nikolay Tolstykh as the person responsible for wage payments, may be disqualified for a period of six months to three years.
