MOSCOW, December 27. /TASS/. Nearly half of Ukrainians hope that US President-elect Donald Trump's victory could bring peace in Ukraine closer, according to a survey by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
According to the survey published on the KIIS website, 15% believe that peace will become significantly closer as a result of Trump’s victory, while 30% say it will come somewhat closer. Conversely, 14% think peace is becoming a more distant possibility — 5% argue it is getting much further away, while 9% believe it is moving slightly further away. The remaining 40% either expect no change or remain undecided.
Earlier, the Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Trump had advised Vladimir Zelensky to consider negotiations with Russia to end the conflict. The periodical noted that Trump suggested exploring a ceasefire and relinquishing claims to territories annexed by Russia during the special military operation.
During his campaign, Trump consistently stated he would achieve a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis before his inauguration.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously outlined conditions for resolving the conflict, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbass and Novorossiya, a commitment from Kiev not to join NATO, the removal of all Western sanctions against Moscow, and Ukraine's designation as a non-aligned and nuclear-free state.
