Russia takes firm stance against legalization of drugs — MFA

"Our main goal, which we are defending at this important event, is combating drugs and related crimes," Sergey Vershinin noted

VIENNA, March 15. /TASS/. Russia believes that it is necessary to stop the destructive trend of legalizing narcotic drugs, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said on the sidelines of the UN Session 67 of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

"We believe that this kind of liberal attitude towards narcotic drugs is incompatible with our values, those outlined in our Constitution. Nor is it compatible with the decisions adopted in Russia, as well as the countries that are close to us," the deputy minister noted. According to him, the majority of nations, including Russia, believe this cavalier attitude towards narcotic drugs to be destructive. It should be stopped, he added.

"We think that such an agenda, the politicization of this field, as well as injecting misguided ideas here <…> are incompatible with the common task of the global community. Our main goal, which we are defending at this important event, is combating drugs and related crimes," Vershinin noted.
