MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting Russian citizens and companies from placing advertisements on all informational resources of persons designated as foreign agents, as well as advertising such resources. The law has been published on the government’s website for official legal information.
For violations of this ban, both the advertiser and the broadcaster would be held liable.
Meanwhile, the ban does not extend to quoting materials of foreign agents in the media, as only advertising publications aimed at increasing the audience of such resources would be deemed a violation.
Under the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses, violations of foreign agent-related restrictions are subject to fines of up to 50,000 rubles (approximately $550) for individual citizens and up to 500,000 rubles (roughly $5,520) for legal entities. If such a violation is committed for a third time in one year, it would be deemed a criminal offense and the violator would be subject to up to two years in prison.
The law takes effect 10 days from its date of publication.
