US lunar module to burn up in Earth’s atmosphere — developer

"A soft landing on the Moon is not possible," US-based spacecraft developer Astrobotic said

NEW YORK, January 14. /TASS/. The lunar landing module Peregrine is on its way to Earth and will burn up in its atmosphere, US-based spacecraft developer Astrobotic said.

"Our latest assessment now shows the spacecraft is on a path towards Earth, where it will likely burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere," the company said. "A soft landing on the Moon is not possible," it noted.

On January 8, the United Launch Alliance (ULA) launched the Vulcan carrier vehicle to deliver the payload to the Moon, including the Peregrine landing module. A module malfunction occurred in several hours after separating from the carrier. Specialists found out that a propellant leak had occurred, leaving no chances for a soft landing on the Earth’s natural satellite.
