BRICS doesn’t require members to cede sovereignty — Russian intelligence chief

"Participation, in one form or another, in the work of BRICS does not exact - unlike similar Western platforms do - does not exact a heavy political price in the form of partial loss of sovereignty," Sergey Naryshkin said

MOSCOW, November 26. /TASS/. BRICS doesn’t require its members and partners to cede sovereignty in contrast to similar Western platforms, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin said.

He made the statement following the 20th meeting of heads of security and intelligence agencies of CIS member countries in Moscow.

"Participation, in one form or another, in the work of BRICS does not exact - unlike similar Western platforms do - does not exact a heavy political price in the form of partial loss of sovereignty," he told reporters.

According to Naryshkin, CIS countries know full well that BRICS is the most rapidly expanding group and has multiple benefits for members.

"The advantages [of BRICS membership] could also be in the area of developing reliable transportation corridors and supply chains for goods, developing secure international payment systems and mechanisms and other areas," the official said and noted that the Commonwealth countries understand this well.
