Lavrov vows to hold Kiev responsible for recent attacks on Zaporozhye nuke plant

According to the top Russian diplomat, so far, international officials have given what he said were "one-sided" views on the developments around Ukraine

BEIJING, April 9. /TASS/. The Kiev regime will not escape responsibility for the recent attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), as Russia will push the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a fair assessment of what has happened there, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

"I doubt they will escape responsibility this time around. We are seeking to work with both the IAEA and the UN Security Council, and we will certainly push them for a frank recognition of what is happening not only around the Zaporozhye nuke plant but also around Ukraine as a whole," he said.

According to Lavrov, so far, international officials have given what he said were "one-sided" views on the developments around Ukraine.

On April 7, the Ukrainian military conducted three attacks on the ZNPP, using drones. First, an area adjacent to the canteen on the premises of the nuclear facility was attacked, with three employees being wounded. Another drone hit the sixth power unit of the ZNPP. On April 8, another Ukrainian kamikaze drone was downed over the nuke plant, and its debris fell on the roof of the same power unit.

Later on Sunday, the IAEA issued a statement from its chief Rafael Grossi on the X social media platform, slamming the drone attack on the ZNPP as "reckless" and calling on those responsible for military decisions to refrain from actions violating the basic principles of nuclear security.
