Tariffs on Russian, Belarusian foodstuffs to affect global food security — diplomat

These measures "will only aggravate the food situation worldwide, which has already become quite complicated as a result of West’s actions," Maria Zakharova said

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. Europe’s decision to impose tariffs on grain from Russia and Belarus will only make the situation on the global food market worse, the Russian foreign ministry’s official spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said on her Telegram channel.

The statement came in response to European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen’s announcement about EU plans to impose tariffs on agricultural imports from Russia and Belarus.

"How can such measures promote global food security?" she asked rhetorically. "They will only aggravate the food situation worldwide, which has already become quite complicated as a result of West’s actions."
