Western-provoked conflicts facilitate terrorism-drug nexus — diplomat

According to Sergey Vershinin, Russia is concerned over the growing polarization of international anti-drug cooperation due to the West's promotion of liberal drug policies and law enforcement links being suspended with the countries they don’t like

VIENNA, March 15. /TASS/. Conflicts in various parts of the world instigated by the West have created a kind of nexus for terrorism and drug trafficking, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said.

"The Western-instigated conflicts in various regions of the world have created a breeding ground for the coming together of drug trafficking, violence and other types of criminal activities, including terrorism," he said at a session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

Apart from that, in his words, Russia is concerned over the growing polarization of international anti-drug cooperation due to the West's promotion of liberal drug policies and law enforcement links being suspended with the countries they don’t like. "The illegal practice of individual and collective unilateral coercive measures, which hit the wellbeing of ordinary people, is being used as an instrument of this destructive approach," the senior Russian diplomat noted.

"The criminal world is using these piecemeal actions of countries to stimulate the illegal trafficking of drugs, including new dangerous synthetic psychoactive substances," Vershinin added.
