Russian mission demands Moldova honor commitments to OSCE

In its statement, the Russian mission also urges the European Security Agency’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights to intervene immediately

VIENNA, October 31. /TASS/. The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the OSCE demands that Chisinau fulfill its commitments to the organization after some Russian observers from the mission were denied accreditation to monitor the local elections in the republic.

In its statement, the Russian mission also urges the European Security Agency’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to intervene immediately.

"We demand the Moldovan authorities return to conscientiously fulfilling their obligations in the electoral sphere, while [from] the ODIHR leadership - to take urgent measures to remedy the situation," the mission stressed.

Earlier, the mission said that the Central Election Commission of Moldova had denied accreditation to some of the Russian observers from the mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to monitor local elections in the republic without any explanation.

"As the local elections in Moldova on November 5 draw near, the leadership of this OSCE member country is stepping up the number of politicized schemes with an openly anti-Russian background," the mission said.

"This time we are talking about the refusal of the country's Central Election Commission to accredit a number of short-term observers from Russia as part of the monitoring mission without giving any explanation as to why," the Russian mission to the OSCE said.
