Leak of Pentagon documents to have no effect on Kiev’s plans — intelligence official

Kirill Budanov said that Kiev has been discussing the issue with Washington from the very outset

NEW YORK, April 14. /TASS/. The leak of secret documents of the US Department of Defense, including those related to Ukraine’s purported counter-offensive, will have no effect on the Kiev government’s plans, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Directorate of Intelligence has told ABC News in an interview.

"If there is a problem, it will be solved," Kirill Budanov was quoted as saying. "If there is no problem, even better. This will not be able to affect the real results of the offensive operation."

At the same time, Budanov did not speculate on who was responsible for the leak.

He said that Kiev has been discussing the issue with Washington from the very outset.

"We have communication with relevant services in the US," the official said. "And from literally the first few hours, we started to talk."

Earlier, US media said the Pentagon and the Department of Justice were investigating a leak of classified documents about Washington and NATO’s plans related to Ukraine’s preparations for a counter-offensive. Numerous documents, including on troop numbers and schedules of Western arms deliveries, have been made available to the public, including via Twitter and Telegram.

On April 7, New York Times reported that another portion of classified Ukraine-themed US documents had appeared online. According to the paper, a number of documents on relations with Middle Eastern countries and China have also been published.

An employee of the US Air National Guard, 21-year-old Jack Douglas Teixeira, was arrested in connection with the leak on Thursday.
