Putin sets task to boost production of domestic satellites for various purposes

The President noted that "the creation of powerful satellite constellations is designed to ensure high quality navigation and communications, including satellite data transmission"

MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Russia needs to increase the production of domestic satellites that could solve a variety of tasks, President Vladimir Putin believes.

"We need to focus on the use of near-Earth space. To do this, together with the technology business, we should significantly increase the production of satellites, move from development work to assembly," the head of state said on Wednesday at a gala evening in honor of Cosmonautics Day.

According to him, "such tasks are being solved in the world."

"And, of course, we can solve them too," Putin said. He listed, for example, several areas where satellite technology is useful.

The President noted that "the creation of powerful satellite constellations is designed to ensure high quality navigation and communications, including satellite data transmission."

"This will make it possible to use remote sensing of the Earth more widely, primarily for the development of our vast territories, to develop unmanned vehicles, to solve global problems, including those related to environment and climate change," he explained.

"We need to expand the launches of autonomous spacecraft to study our Arctic region, form a national satellite monitoring system for carbon content with the participation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, study the ability of our forests and other natural ecosystems to absorb greenhouse gases from the atmosphere," the head of state said.

In his opinion, "all these are the most important tasks, and in order to solve them, we need to strengthen the interaction between the state, business and science in the space sector, to achieve breakthrough results together, including on the basis of unique developments in the field of space nuclear energy and hypersonic technologies."

"We need to quickly switch to the production of advanced competitive products in the interests of the national economy," the President said.
