The magnitude 7.2 earthquake was felt across the whole territory of Taiwan

HONG KONG, April 3. /TASS/. At least one person was killed and more than 50 injured in a powerful earthquake that struck on Wednesday morning off the coast of Taiwan, Reuters news agency reported.

The magnitude 7.2 earthquake near Taiwan’s Hualien County, which struck at 07:58 a.m. local time (02:58 a.m. Moscow time) on Wednesday, was felt across the whole territory of Taiwan.

According to local seismologists, the epicenter of the reported earthquake was located off the eastern coast of the island 25 kilometers (over 15.5 miles) southeast of the city of Hualian at the depth of 15.5 kilometers (9.6 miles).

Twenty more aftershocks were reported to follow in the region at the issue, while the tremors were also reported in China’s eastern Fujian and Jiangsu provinces.

The Japanese meteorological services reported earlier in the day that a tsunami warning was issued with waves reaching the height of three meters for the Japanese Prefecture of Okinawa following a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck off Japan's southwest.
