Rosatom ready to take defective fuel from Fukushima

No specific proposals have been received for the time being yet

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Rosatom is ready to take defective fuel from the Fukushima-1 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) but no specific proposals have been received for the time being, department director of the Russian state nuclear corporation Andrei Ivanov told reporters on Friday.

"Different options of such cooperation were discussed, including in respect of taking defective fuel of Fukushima. However, no specific statements and actions have been made so far," Ivanov said.

It was reported early in September that Rosatom offered help in eliminating accident consequences at Fukushima NPP and decommissioning nuclear power plants recognized by authorities as unsafe.
