There will be no contract for Russian gas transit through Ukraine — Putin

The Russian President noted that Ukraine shut off Russian gas supplies to European consumers, although existence of Ukraine depends on the West and Europe in particular

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. There will definitely be no contract on transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, but Gazprom will survive, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the combined Direct Line Q&A session and year-end press conference.

"This [transit] contract will no longer exist, it is clear, but Gazprom will survive it," the president said.

Putin added that Ukraine shuts off Russian gas supplies to European consumers, although existence of Ukraine depends on the West and Europe in particular.

"Ukraine shut our gas deliveries to European consumers. On the one part, it ‘picks from their hand’, because only with support from the West, particularly from Europe, it can exist - not merely fight, but exist! At the same time, it creates problems for them by shutting off deliveries of our relatively cheap gas to Europe," the president said.
