Over 1 mln surveillance cameras operating in Russia — minister

According to Maksut Shadaev, each third camera in Russia is connected to the face recognition system

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. More than one million video surveillance cameras are operating in Russia, Minister for Digital Development Maksut Shadaev said at the Russia Expo forum.

"We have in Russia more than a million cameras mounted, which monitor security. In residential areas, in public areas, at transport facilities and on roads. At present, actually each third our camera is connected to the face recognition system. All the cameras mounted on roads automatically recognize license plate numbers," Shadaev said.

Systems for processing of photos and videos of roads and amenities are being implemented in fourteen regions, according to the minister’s presentation.

The Russia Expo international exhibition and forum is being held from November 4, 2023 to April 12, 2024. TASS is the general information agency of the Forum.
