Sber suggests calculating total carbon footprint of BRICS — Senior VP

According to Tatyana Zavyalova, this will make it possible to improve verification systems and taxonomy in BRICS countries and open the door for a unified system to fund climate projects

DUBAI, December 12. /TASS/. Sber suggests creating a unified BRICS registry for carbon units to synchronize regulatory practices in the climate change management sphere, Tatyana Zavyalova, Senior Vice President of the Russian bank for ESG, said at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).

"We believe it is necessary to create a platform where we will systematically discuss climate and green agendas. We see it as a BRICS climate council. The first project within the framework of this Council that should be implemented taking into account the opinions of all the stakeholders is to create a single BRICS registry for carbon units," Zavyalova said.

Figuring this out will make it possible to improve verification systems and taxonomy in BRICS countries and open the door for a unified system to fund climate projects, the bank’s executive noted.

"We see the creation of a single digital platform of advanced technology solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of economies as the next step in developing this initiative. Coming together like this will enable BRICS countries to move to eco-friendly technologies and create new carbon markets," she stressed.
