China’s coal imports up 66% in January-October to 383 mln tons

In value terms, coal imports rose by 26.7% in the reporting period to $43.23 bln

BEIJING, November 7. /TASS/. China’s imports of coal (including lignite) amounted to 383.64 mln tons in January-October 2023, up by 66.8%, the General Administration of Customs of China reported.

In value terms, coal imports rose by 26.7% in the reporting period to $43.23 bln, according to figures released on the website of the customs service.

In October, China’s coal imports fell by 14.5% month-on-month to 35.99 mln tons in physical terms, and by 11% to $3.55 bln in money terms.

Russia’s coal supplies to China have been growing as last year they rose by 11.2% to 59.52 mln tons, according to official figures.

In 2022, China cut imports of coal (including lignite) by 9.2% to 293.4 mln tons.
