Russia’s electricity production falls by 0.5% in September

Renewable energy generation facilities produced 623 mln kWh of electricity in September (an increase of 1.2%)

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. Electricity generation in Russia in September 2023 decreased by 0.5% compared to September 2022 and reached 87.8 bln kWh, according to the Russian State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

In particular, Russian thermal power plants in September reduced production by 3.7% year-on-year to 52.1 bln kWh, remaining the main supplier of electricity to the country's unified energy system with a share of 63.1% of total electricity production. Nuclear power plants decreased output by 5.1% to 17.5 bln kWh, while hydroelectric power plants increased electricity production by 16.5% to 17.6 bln kWh.

Renewable energy generation facilities produced 623 mln kWh of electricity in September (an increase of 1.2%).

In January - September 2023, total electricity production in Russia increased in annual terms by 0.3%, to 856 bln kWh.

Thus, production at thermal power plants increased by 2.1% to 540 bln kWh, but decreased by 3.2% and 1.9% at nuclear power plants and hydroelectric power stations to 159 bln and 151 bln kWh, respectively. Generation at renewable energy facilities over the nine months decreased by 9.4%, to 5.8 bln kWh.
