HAIKOU, February 6. /TASS/. The China Southern Power Grid Company (CSG) handed over to Hainan the first special vessel in China, capable of diagnosing and repairing 500 kV cables passing along the seabed, reported the Hainan Daily.

According to the newspaper, the new floating technical device is called "Nandian Jiancha-01" ("Inspector CSG-01"). It is equipped with a modern robotic system, acoustic and optical equipment, and electromagnetic measuring mechanisms.

The repair vessel is based at Hainan's Haikou (the administrative center of the province). It is capable of working with cables that are energized, therefore, as explained in CSG, for the period of repair, the authorities will not have to disconnect the transmission line from the energy source and temporarily leave residents of certain areas of the island without electricity.

The Hainan authorities are actively developing the regional power supply system, paying great attention to eco-friendly sources. According to statistics, in 2020, thanks to key "green" objects alone, the island received more than 13.33 billion kW/h, which is 8.4% higher than in the previous year. Approximately 40% of the province's electricity comes from alternative technologies to avoid pollution. Moreover, energy is supplied from the mainland through cables laid across the Qiongzhou Strait on the seabed.
