MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. A group of terrorists travelling in a pickup truck has made an attempt to break out of the US-occupied Al-Tanf zone by opening fire from a large-caliber machine gun on a stronghold of the Syrian army, Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria, said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on October 4 at 18.30 Moscow time on the border of the US-occupied Al-Tanf zone in Homs province.

"A group of terrorists travelling in a pickup truck tried to break out of the area while firing a large-caliber machine gun at a stronghold of the Syrian Arab Army," Yegorov said.

The Russian Defense Ministry added that militants from the US-controlled armed groups had taken part in the attack. The breakthrough attempt was foiled by the Syrian government forces in return fire, and the attackers fled into the US-occupied area. One Syrian soldier was wounded in the fight.
