Assad accuses EU, US, Israel of supporting terrorists

The Syrian leader praised the role of Iran saying that "they support Syria in fighting terrorists, they support Syria politically"

ROME, March 13. /TASS/. The European Union, the United States and Israel have been supporting terrorists, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in an interview with the Italian TGCOM news website.

"Terrorist attacks in Syria have been happening on a daily basis. As long as we have terrorists in Syria, every Syrian citizen is in danger," Assad said. According to him, "the question here is who supports those terrorists? I would like to raise this question before the European officials that went the wrong way since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, paving the way for the destruction of Syria and the spread of terrorism in the region. "That led to terrorist attacks in many European countries and the refugee crisis," the Syrian president added.

"Now, if you want to talk about the European role, or the Western role, because it’s been led by the Americans, the only role was to support terrorists. They didn’t support any political process. They only talk about political process but there is no real commitment to the political action," Assad went on to say.

At the same time, the Syrian leader praised the role of Iran saying that "they support Syria in fighting terrorists, they support Syria politically."

"Israel, from the other side, has been supporting the terrorists, logistically or through directs raids on our army in the neighboring area," Bashar al-Assad stressed.

Syrian people

Assad went on to say that only the Syrian people have the right to choose their president.

"First of all, the Syrian people should choose their president and should hold anyone accountable for any conflict and problem, not the United Nations. It doesn’t have any role, and we all know that since the collapse of the Soviet Union there’s no political balance in the United Nations, because some countries in the Security Council, the permanent countries like France, the UK, and the United States, tried to use the United Nations for their own political agenda and to topple governments whenever they don’t obey or comply with their agendas," Assad said.

"I only listen to the Syrian people, I don’t care what the UN says, or any other official outside Syria would say about that," the Syrian president added.
