CAIRO, August 19. /TASS/. As many as 62,004 Palestinians have been killed and over 156,000 injured in Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, the enclave’s Health Ministry said.
According to the ministry, at least 60 civilians were killed in Gaza in the past day, and another 344 suffered injuries.
Tensions intensified again in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, when militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian movement Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing residents of border settlements and taking hostages. In response, Israel initiated a military operation in the Palestinian enclave to dismantle Hamas' military and political structures and free all hostages.
On August 8, Israel’s military-political cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take the entire Gaza City under control and broaden the operation in the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli military will soon proceed to an operation in Gaza City, Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir said on August 17.
