VILNIUS, March 18. /TASS/. Lithuania has put stricter controls on Russian grain supplied to its domestic market or transited to the port of Klaipeda, the State Food and Veterinary Service said.
Imported grain is checked for the presence of traces of pesticides, micro-toxins and metals (lead and cadmium). Feed grain inspections began on Monday. "Every railcar, every truck is being inspected," spokesperson for the Service Aiste Prielgauskaite said. Control measures will also apply to food grade grain in the coming days. "Coordination of procedures is being finalized. The relevant order could be signed on March 20," she noted.
Similar measures will apply to countries and territories included by Lithuania in its high-risk list. The list comprises Abkhazia, Belarus, Transnistria and South Ossetia. Grain is not under EU sanctions.
Further investigations are planned to determine the country of origin of grain.
