Japanese, US national security advisors discuss North Korean ICBM launch

Foreign Ministry of Japan also announced that the missile launch was discussed by the special representatives of governments of Japan, the US and South Korea. They agreed to cooperate in order to reinforce the deterrence and response potential, Kyodo reports

TOKYO, December 18. /TASS/. Secretary of the National Security Council of Japan Takeo Akiba and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan discussed the North Korean missile launch and agreed to cooperate closely on this issue, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi announced.

Foreign Ministry of Japan also announced that the missile launch was discussed by the special representatives of governments of Japan, the US and South Korea. They agreed to cooperate in order to reinforce the deterrence and response potential, Kyodo reports.

According to the Defense Ministry of Japan, the North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile, launched on Monday, covered over 1,000 km in 73 minutes with maximum altitude of 6,000 km. If launched on normal trajectory, the missile’s range may exceed 15,000 km, which covers the entire US territory.

The missile fell 250 km west of the Okushiri Island, outside of the exclusive economic zone of Japan.
